We are experts at automating word processing software for Canadian lawyers and law offices. We take pride in our ingenuity and proven ability to deliver affordable, high-quality solutions to meet the complex requirements of the legal office. Our clients range in size from sole practitioners to large national law firms.
We are interested in helping you define and achieve goals to maximize your firm's computer technology investment.
Our current focus is Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office. We continue to automate and support Corel WordPerfect for existing clients who require that service.
CONSULTING SERVICES
The scope of our legal office automation projects ranges considerably. We provide consulting services to plan the entire Microsoft Word environment and/or conversion from WordPerfect. We also provide custom programming and development services to automate specific tasks.
A specific task may be something as simple as developing a single automated Word template with macros or something as involved as a custom, practice-specific legal document assembly software.
Our service starts with us collaborating with your people to define your goals and create an automation and/or conversion plan. As necessary, we coach your people during the planning phase to enable you to make design decisions from an informed perspective. Although our goal is to leave you independent from us between projects, our service does not stop after your production release. We build long-term business relationships with our clients.
Our rates are reasonable and we are very generous with our free support.
MACRO SUITE / DOCUMENT ASSEMBLY APPLICATIONS
Your solutions may be comprised of all or parts of our core products, including:
- Our suite of Microsoft Word templates and macros which includes legal numbering software, automated document identification for ODMA document management systems, and many other tools that automate repetitive tasks relating to legal documents
(To accommodate the language requirements of the Province of Quebec, our solutions are designed to allow automatic toggling of the user interface language from English to French at run-time according to the user's preference).
- Our document assembly package for British Columbia litigation, "Counsellor's Complement" (with emphasis on personal injury / motor vehicle accident litigation).
- Our document assembly package for British Columbia residential conveyancing and mortgages, "Conveyancer's Complement".
Where necessary, we will modify our solutions and/or develop custom solutions to suit your exact requirements. We will also assist you with evaluation and selection of third party products. The objective is to find the best solution to meet your exact requirements.
We provide training services to supplement our consulting and development services. We find that firms can better maximize their technology investments when the system designers are involved in the training. For small firms, we deliver the training ourselves. For large firms, we assist with training program development and training the trainers.

SERVICE AREA
Although the majority of our clients are lawyers and law offices located in southern British Columbia, we do provide products and services to large law offices located in eastern Canada (Montréal and Toronto).
Travel to greater Vancouver and southern Vancouver Island is at our expense. Costs for travel elsewhere, if necessary, are recovered from the client.
WHO WE ARE
JMK Document Automation Consulting was founded by Jean Keeling in 2003. Jean has been involved in law office automation, consulting, development and training for more than 24 years (15 of those years as an independent consultant). Jean's 24 years, added to the experience of our consultants, amounts to more than 70 years experience with law office automation, training and legal IT management.
Over the years, we have automated a great variety of tasks, small and large, related to document conversion and legal document production. We have extensive experience with developing practice-specific document assembly applications for real estate conveyancing & mortgages, commercial lending, corporate records, litigation (with focus on personal injury), wills & estates, family law and foreclosure.
